I am in the Daily Mail – my life is complete

I was hoping to get through my life without ever being in that ghastly rag, but ‘never say never’.  I suppose.   For non-UK readers, the Daily Mail is a sensationalist, right wing tabloid newspaper popular with xenophobes and extreme conservatives.  With the move to online publishing, Britain lost its greatest source of wrapping for Fish and Chips.

Read the article here

In true Mail style, the article is absolutely full of spelling mistakes, factual inaccuracies, context errors, bad English etc., and seems to have been cobbled together out of soundbites.   I suppose it could have been worse.  Given their track record, I am lucky that the headline didn’t read:

“WORK-SHY GYPSY WHO HAS NOT PAID UK TAXES IN 30 YEARS, LIVING LIFE OF LUXURY ON YACHT WITH BUXOM BIKINI BABES”

So, every cloud has a silver lining and there is no such thing as bad publicity (or so I am told)

Fair winds to everyone – stay safe out there!

    Haha LoL 😂.
Loved your alternate Daily Mail headline. Think you have a career on Fleet Street should you ever decide (foolhardily) to give up Calypso II.

Glad to see you arrived in Oz safe and sound. Decent swell around New Caledonia?

      G’day Senor Howells,

Sorry for the tardy reply.  Yes, the Daily Mail can always be trusted to get it wrong.  What a rag – echo chamber of the terminally dull.  The swell around New Cal was not bad this time, but this mmay be partly due to the fact that I gave it much more of an offing on this occasion.  The radar was playing up a bit and I wanted to avoid all the unlit fishing boats around there, so I gave it about 100 miles to starboard.

No plans to become a pap just yet, but thanks for asking 🙂

      Cheers,
      Rick

Have just read ‘Get Real,Get Gone’
for a second time..while recovering from a siesta on the east coast of Sardinia..it’s the sort of title that us 68.5 yr olds need! Imagination is fired but extraction from earth bound responsabilidades not 100% straightforward but what a great book! Many thanks+ looking forward to your next one.

      Hi Oliver,

Glad you liked the book and pleased to say that the new one should be out in a couple of weeks time. Good luck shedding those earth-bound responsibilities!

      Cheers,

      Rick
